It's a battle of two Davids as couch spuds crown the seventh ''American Idol'' winner this week.
One's alternative. One's traditional. Both have style, talent and sex appeal. Neither has even been in the bottom of the weekly voting. Both set women's hearts afire.
They face off with performances of three songs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Fox. The results show at 8 p.m. Wednesday could be the most-watched program during the May sweeps.
So which one will win?
The teens and tweens who squeal over Archuleta's every move know how to speed-dial those votes. But music critics, oddsmakers and older women favor Cook. This could well be the closest vote in the show's history.
David Archuleta
Age: 17
Hometown: Murray, Utah
Claim To Fame: Won $100,000 on ''Star Search''
Best ''Idol'' Performance: John Lennon's ''Imagine''
Worst ''Idol'' Performance: Chris Brown's ''With You''
Biggest Hurdle To Overcome: His dad
We Like The Way He: Is as cute as a puppy and sings like a pro
Why He Should Win: The kid's a vocal prodigy.
Why He Shouldn't Win: His aw-shucks demeanor wears thin.
Post-''Idol'' Prospects: Is Up With People still around? Or if they redo ''Beach Party'' movies, he's in.
David Cook
Age: 25
Hometown: Blue Springs, Mo.
Claim To Fame: Released ''Analog Heart,'' an independent album, in 2006
Best ''Idol'' Performance: Michael Jackson's ''Billie Jean''
Worst ''Idol'' Performance: Our Lady Peace's ''Innocent''
Biggest Hurdle To Overcome: He's up against that puppy.
We Like The Way He: Works so hard to achieve a disheveled look
Why He Should Win: He's confident and ready for a music career.
Why He Shouldn't Win: Let's face it, he's arrogant. Or at least smug.
Post-''Idol'' Prospects: Like Chris Daughtry, he'll front his own band.
