Telemarketing Sting Results To Be Unveiled In Clearwater

CLEARWATER - The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday will announce the results of "Operation Tele-Phoney," which is described by the agency as the largest telemarketing investigation in history.

The FTC, along with local and state law enforcement agencies, has worked to dismantle fraudulent telemarketing companies across the country, authorities say.

One of those companies is in Clearwater, which is why the FTC is making a special announcement at the Clearwater Police Department at 1 p.m., said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, spokeswoman for Clearwater's public safety agencies.

Earlier in the day, there will be a national news conference on the investigation in Washington.
