TAMPA - A woman who worked in a Bartow nursing home performed the duties of a certified nursing assistant although she was never issued a license, authorities said.
Erica D. Bryant, 23, was arrested Saturday and charged with unlicensed practice of a health care profession. The charge is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Investigators with the state's Department of Health and the Polk County Sheriff's Office said Bryant worked at the Bartow Center Nursing Home, 2055 E. Georgia St., in 2007 and represented herself as a licensed CNA.
Bryant applied for a CNA license in 2006 but no license was ever issued, investigators said. She was released from Polk County Jail on Saturday on $1,000 bail.
The department of health has workers that combat unlicensed activity. Consumers can visit the Web site at www.flhealthsource.com to view license information on health care practitioners.
