The county's affordable housing department is under federal investigation, but the county won't say for what.
The U.S. Attorney's Office, the FBI and the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Housing and Urban Development are conducting the investigation, County Administrator Pat Bean said during a brief news conference this afternoon.
Bean read a short statement announcing the investigation but declined to take questions, saying she did not want to hamper the investigation.
According to Bean's statement, she met Monday with Robert O'Neill, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, and gave him information county investigators had discovered about the affordable housing office.
The investigation is being conducted by federal authorities because the affordable housing office is funded mostly with federal money, Bean said in her statement.
