TAMPA - Police arrested a man Tuesday who fled the day before from a prostitution sting at Robles Park.
Yuber Sanchez, 33, of 37339 Des Rosier Road, Dade City, was charged with attempted armed robbery and burglary.
Sanchez had boarded a bus Tuesday in Plant City that was headed to Mexico, police said. Authorities pulled over the bus on northbound Interstate 75 near Fowler Avenue and found Sanchez, who was wearing a wig, hat and sunglasses.
About 1:30 a.m. Monday, Sanchez, his girlfriend Heather Nunn and Isaac Rodriguez approached an undercover officer and Nunn offered to have sex with him for $50, police said.
Officer Alberto Burgos acted as if he was going to get the cash. When he returned, Sanchez and Rodriguez attacked him to try to steal the money, police said. One of the men had a knife and Burgos fired one shot, hitting Rodriguez in the upper torso, police said.
Rodriguez is in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital. Nunn was arrested at the scene. Sanchez was booked into Orient Road Jail on Tuesday night.
