PORT RICHEY - The city has a new fire chief - for now.
Capt. Tim Sirois was tapped Tuesday to run the fire department after last week's sudden resignation of public safety director Matt Brewi.
Brewi, who assumed leadership of both the police and fire departments as public safety director one year ago, resigned Thursday, citing personal reasons. He was Port Richey's first public safety director, part of a reorganization and cost-saving plan that combined both departments into a single unit.
His last day is May 28.
Last week, the city appointed Lt. David Brown as interim chief of the police department.
City Manager Richard Reade said he plans to discuss with council members whether the city wants to return to having separate police and fire departments.
The city council will have the final say.
