ST. PETERSBURG -- A patrol officer responding tonight to a suicide attempt lost control of his marked car, rolled over at least once and struck a telephone pole, police said.
Officer Kenneth Pienik was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said.
Wet roads due to the weather may have caused Pienik to lose control of his police cruiser, Proffitt said. The vehicle's driver side struck a telephone pole at the intersection of 18th Avenue South and 22nd Street South, injuring Pienik.
An administrative review on the crash will be conducted, Proffitt said.
