Regarding "Kennedy Prognosis Not Good, Experts Say" (front page, May 21):
Like him or hate him, Republican or Democrat, you have to admit that Sen. Ted Kennedy is a politician. Not in the new sense of the term, but the old. A legislator who realizes that to get things done requires compromise. He has been one of the few senators who have been able to "reach across the aisle," as is commonly said today.
Despite his shortcomings, which many will say are numerous, he has worked tirelessly to do what he feels has been best, not only for his party but for the country. Health care, immigration and minimum wage are the tough issues. To tackle these problems and still have the longevity he has attained in Congress is a remarkable testament to his popularity.
This is not to eulogize the senator, we wish him a speedy recovery, but to express that these traits are still what is most important, I think, to the political process which defines our country.
