TAMPA - It has been a pretty good run for Alex Panteliodis during the past few days, ones filled with honors and accolades.
The latest came Wednesday morning at the Fredrick B. Karl County Center downtown, where the Alonso senior baseball standout was the recipient of the third annual Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award, which is given to a high school baseball player or team in recognition of athletic and scholastic achievement.
Panteliodis, a left-handed pitcher/first baseman, was recognized in front of the County Commission and was presented the award by Boggs, the Hall of Fame baseball player for which it is named.
"I never would have thought I'd get this award," Panteliodis said. "I'm very honored."
The award was the second this week for Panteliodis. On Monday he was named the Tribune's Baseball Athlete of the Year during the Parade of Athletes banquet at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa. Earlier this season, Panteliodis, who will attend the University of Florida on a baseball scholarship, was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 13 Player of the Year.
Plant senior infielder Preston Tucker and Durant senior infielder Taed Moses also were recognized Wednesday as honorable-mention award recipients. Tucker and Moses also will continue their education and playing careers at the next level.
Tucker, who led the county in home runs and RBIs in each of the last two seasons, will attend Florida on a baseball scholarship. Moses, a four-year letter winner and two-year starter for the Cougars, will attend Seminole Community College after recently signing with the baseball program.
