Two young brothers from Bradenton were struck by an 80-year-old driver as they entered a crosswalk in front of a plaza, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Virginia Cory, 80, also of Bradenton, was turning from the parking lot of the Shoppes of Paradise Bay onto Cortez Road West when she struck 8-year-old Hunter Williams, who was inline skating, and 11-year-old William Williams, who was on a bicycle, troopers said.
It happened at 8:15 this morning.
Cory didn't see the boys and ran over Hunter's legs and over William's left leg and his bicycle, investigators said. Both boys were wearing safety helmets.
A medical helicopter airlifted the younger brother to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The boys' father took the older boy to Bradenton's Blake Medical Center for treatment.
Troopers described Hunter's injuries as serious and William's injury as minor.
Cory, who was not injured, was charged with violation of right of way.
