The My Safe Florida Home program was created in 2006 to provide homeowners with a way to gauge whether their houses could withstand a severe storm. The program, which is administered by the Department of Financial Services, received $250 million from the Legislature to provide free wind inspections and matching grants up to $5,000 for eligible residents.
The Legislature set a goal of 400,000 inspections completed and 35,000 grants approved by June 2009. My Safe Florida Home has spent $223.4 million of its original allocation and, of the remaining $26.6 million, lawmakers recently approved using $10 million to create a no-interest loan program.
If you want to schedule a free hurricane inspection, or to discuss an existing inspection or grant issue, contact My Safe Florida Home at 866-513-6734.
