TAMPA - Patricia Getty moved to New Port Richey in 2002 after serving for 26 years in the Philadelphia Police Department, which she left as a lieutenant.

In retirement, she decided to pursue her true passion: acting.

Six years later, she has a role in the movie "Recount," airing at 9 p.m. Sunday on HBO, about the recount in Florida during the 2000 election.

She plays Margaret Tutweiler, who was director of communications for the George Bush election team. "She worked mostly behind the scenes," Getty said. "I have few lines, but I'm in about 20 scenes."

One of those scenes — the first time you see Getty — is as she, Tom Wilkinson (as James Baker) and Bob Balaban (as Bush aide Ben Ginsberg) get out of a Lincoln Town Car together. "It's like we're the hired guns who have arrived to take charge," she said.

Working with the likes of Wilkinson and Balaban was heaven, Getty said. The shooting in Jacksonville lasted for a week, and "it was one of the most wonderful weeks of my life," she said. "I was working with Hollywood royalty and just complete pros. It was just fantastic."

Getty has come far in her second career, moving from modeling on the Home Shopping Network to performing in shows at the Show Palace Theater in Hudson, including a run on "Showboat."

After "Recount," she'll appear in the film "National Lampoon's Robo-Doc," to be released in August (she's the doctor's first patient). She also has a part in the movie "Scout's Honor," which is expected to be released this year.

Getty didn't give her age, but said, "I ain't no spring chicken, Darling."
