TAMPA - Two weeks ago, Gov. Charlie Crist appointed a county judge to fill a circuit judge seat left vacant when Monica Sierra resigned to continue as a volunteer for an evangelical mission in Israel's West Bank.
Now the Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications from lawyers who want to fill the county judge seat left vacant when Thomas Barber was appointed to fill Sierra's judgeship.
Applications can be downloaded from the Florida Bar Web site, www.flabar.org, or picked up from the Tampa law offices of Jung & Sisco at 100 S. Ashley Drive, Suite 1240.
Applicants must submit the original application -- plus nine copies and a photograph -- no later than 5 p.m. June 19.
The commission expects to submit a list of nominees to the governor by July 18.
Applicants must be lawyers who are Hillsborough County residents and registered voters who have been members of the Florida Bar for at least five years.
