MIAMI - The wife of a former FBI agent thought to be missing in Iran said Friday she is offering a $5,000 reward for information on her husband after more than a year of silence on his whereabouts.
Robert Levinson, 60, of Coral Springs disappeared in March 2007 during a business trip to Kish Island off Iran's southern coast. The U.S. government has asked Iran about Levinson, but the country said it has no information.
"That's why I've decided that I need to put out a reward, so people over there will become aware of this situation," Christine Levinson said.
"There has to be information out there. Someone knows where he is and someone can get him home to me," she said.
Christine Levinson noted her husband has diabetes and high blood pressure, and may have had a medical checkup in Iran.
"There is a possibility that the medical personnel over there have seen him and maybe don't remember," Christine Levinson said. She hopes the promise of a reward will jog memories and donations through her family's Web site, www.helpboblevinson.com, will allow them to increase the reward money.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the family through the Web site, or visit the Swiss Embassy in Tehran. Swiss diplomats look after U.S. interests there because the United States and Iran do not have formal diplomatic relations.
"I do believe he's alive and safe somewhere in Iran," Christine Levinson said. She has asked for permission to travel there in July to get an update from the Iranian government, which has promised to continue helping her. She first met with officials there during a trip in December.
Earlier this month, she marked the second wedding anniversary that has passed without her husband.
