Hispanic Electorate's Legality Questioned

The 'Illegal' Problem

Regarding "Florida's Hispanic Electorate In Play" (Our Opinion, May 18):

Your editorial misrepresents the issue at hand, as you disingenuously refer to the real problem of illegal immigration as simply "immigration."
Liberal policies such as any degree of amnesty, government benefits for illegals, "sanctuary cities," virtual fences - instead of the proven double-layered wall - all simply increase the rate of illegals flooding into the United States.

All of this is well known, as these maladies have been shown to have occurred hundreds of times in the United States, over and over again.

One can only conclude that those supporting your liberal policies simply hate traditional America. You certainly are in support of the liberal Long Term Strategic Plan to ultimately turn this country into a corrupt Third World oligarchy - which is where we are heading thanks to the likes of you!

Don't Blame The GOP

The Tribune condemns the "racist tenor" by "some" Republicans in the illegal immigration debate, but according to the Pew Hispanic Center, about 80 percent of U.S. illegals are from Mexico or Latin America. How do we discuss the issue without acknowledging the primary source of the problem?

The statement that the majority of Latinos support strong immigration laws is disingenuous. The Republican "strong immigration legislation" normally includes securing U.S. borders, enforcement of existing laws and the preservation of American jobs - and is not supported by the Latino majority.

The "strong immigration laws" the Latino Republican community and its leaders support are the Democratic versions which include the reward of amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegals. The voting record of the Hispanic Florida congressional members reveals that rarely do these officials vote "Republican" on immigration legislation.
