Regarding "College Degrees A Waste Of Time, Money" (Commentary, May 11):
As the principal of the Erwin Technical Center, I offer a comment about Marty Nemko's column.
Each morning, you wake up to an alarm clock, which requires electricity. You either have the air conditioning or the heat on, courtesy of your AC technician. You go into your bathroom, which was installed by a plumber. Erwin also does cosmetology and barbering. You get in your car, recently serviced by an automotive technician. Erwin does that, too.
You go to your doctor for your annual physical. There, you get blood work done by a phlebotomist. The lab tech reads your results. A medical assistant takes care of all the preliminaries. Erwin provides training for all of those skills.
Of all the services you use in a day, most require the skills of someone trained by an adult technical center. Think about it, parents!
