Tips For Parents
•Don't get angry at your child for viewing inappropriate content. Instead, encourage your child to talk to you about anything he or she sees that scares, upsets or confuses him or her.
• Track your child's Internet history, and know screen names and e-mail addresses.
• Keep the computer in an open area of your home.
Tips For Teens
• Never agree to meet anyone in person whom you first "met" online.
• Keep your private information private.
• Tell a trusted adult if you receive any communication that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Glossary Of Chat Terms
Some parents are baffled by the shorthand kids have created for online chatting. Here are a few of the more common abbreviations:
afk - away from keyboard
asl or a/s/l - age, sex, location
brb - Be Right Back
IM - Instant Message
rofl - rolling on floor laughing
cya - see you later
l8r - later
pos - parent over shoulder
p911 - parent in the room be careful
yw - you're welcome
tx - thanks
