SARASOTA — A fight outside a Sarasota club early today escalated into a shooting that left one man hospitalized with a bullet in his face, police said.
Princeton Lenneal, 23, was flown by Bayflite helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after the 2:30 a.m. shooting at the Newtown Social Club in the 1900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Lenneal remains in stable condition.
Eddie Payne Jr., 24, is accused of firing a 9 mm handgun and injuring Lenneal during a scuffle with other patrons at the club. Police later found Payne hiding in some bushes in the 2800 block of North Lockwood Meadows Boulevard.
Payne was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment for several "significant" bites from K-9 unit dogs that found him, according to the Sarasota Police Department. He faces several felony charges.
