JACKSONVILLE - The University of Miami finally added a conference championship trophy to its collection of hardware.
The top-seeded Hurricanes sent 10 batters to the plate during a four-run first inning and went on to defeat Virginia 8-4 on Sunday to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. It was the first conference championship for the Hurricanes in the program's 64 years.
Miami has won four national titles and a combination of 18 regional or super regional titles, but played as an independent until joining the ACC in 2005, going 2-6 in its first three ACC tournaments.
Mark Sobolewski, Ryan Jackson and Dennis Raben hit RBI singles in the first. Miami added three runs in the third, including an RBI double by Blake Tekotte.
Canes starting pitcher David Gutierrez (4-0) held Virginia scoreless on three hits through the first five innings.

The full 64-team bracket will be revealed today.
The other regional hosts are Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Long Beach State, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Rice, Stanford and Texas A&M.
UT OPENER POSTPONED: Because of inclement weather in Sauget, Ill., the University of Tampa's opening game at the NCAA Division II Championships against Ashland was postponed until noon today.
