The Indy Racing League has targeted 2011 for introducing a new chassis, and students from the Detroit-based College of Creative Studies were invited to envision what the car will look like.
Because form will follow function, the next chassis probably won't be as radically futuristic as those pictured here. But fans can expect some noticeable changes.
A chassis redesign gives the IRL and its chassis supplier(s) a chance to address some of the safety concerns raised by former Champ Car star Sebastien Bourdais and others, as well as create more cockpit space for tall drivers such as 6-foot-4 Justin Wilson and 6-2 Graham Rahal.
