TAMPA -- Shelley Broader, who led the conversion of the Kash n' Karry grocery chain into Sweetbay Supermarkets, is leaving the company.
Sweetbay announced today that Broader, who serves as chief executive officer at the chain, will leave June 15 to take another job in retailing outside of the supermarket industry.
The announcement did not disclose which company Broader will join.
Sweetbay said it would make an announcement on her successor soon.
Broader was described by Ron Hodge, president and chief executive of the Hannaford Bros. Co., as the "driving force" behind the Sweetbay concept.
"We will benefit from her leadership for years to come," Hodge said.
Sweetbay, which is the No. 3 grocery chain in the Tampa Bay area, and Maine-based Hannaford are owned by the Belgium-based Delhaize Group. Sweetbay has 107 stores in Florida.
