Regarding "2 Months After Flight, No Asylum, No Regret" (front page, May 27):
Food stamps? Are you kidding me? The money Yendry Diaz spent buying a laptop and a $45 per month cell phone obviously could have been put to better use.
Diaz abandoned his soccer team in the middle of a quest for the Olympics and abandoned his family and his country. As a soccer player and with the jobs his parents have, they enjoyed an above-average life in Cuba. He's just another immigrant coming to the U.S. with his hand out for free food and services.
When he turns pro, I suppose he will send all his money "home" like many others. We should keep track of the money spent on his "case" and demand retribution.
