Video Game Review: Teenage Zombies: Invasion of the Alien Brain Thingys

Published: May 30, 2008

System: Nintendo DS

Publisher: Ignition Entertainment

Reviewer's rating: **½

ESRB rating: Everyone 10+

Game type: Platform adventure

Kind of like: "Stubbs the Zombie"

Best feature: Hello? It's got zombies.

Worst feature: It's pretty short.

The bottom line: You can't go wrong with some things. Food always tastes better on a stick. Movies always get funnier when monkeys show up. And no video game has ever suffered from the inclusion of a zombie.

This game features three of 'em, each with different puzzle-solving abilities. For example, Half-Pipe can fit into tight spaces, Lefty can reach high ledges and Fins can use suction to scale walls. You'll need to switch between the three characters to complete levels.

Speaking of which, your objective is to save planet Earth from imminent doom. The game's subtitle is "Invasion of the Alien Brain Thingys," and if (like us) you think a game that features both zombies and aliens sounds too good to be true, you might be a bit disappointed by the old-school side-scrolling gameplay and less-than-challenging puzzles.

Even so, the comic book-style presentation and campy pulp humor lend enough charm that you'll probably want to stick with these "Teenage Zombies" even when they start to feel, ummm, stale.

Oh, to be young and undead.
