RIVERVIEW - A pair of former zookeepers have traded in caring for rhinoceroses and hippos for retrievers and huskies.
Kendall Duncan and Angie Frazier opened their kennel and doggie day care center, Canine Cabana, on Carr Road this month, realizing a dream they discussed for years while working at Busch Gardens.
"We decided to do something that brought us closer to home and let us get more involved in our community," Frazier said. She lives in Riverview. Duncan resides in Bloomingdale.
They said the location off Boyette Road was a natural because of all the growth in the area.
The pair bought an oak-shaded acre and constructed a steel building for 22 kennel runs. The facility also has a 2,000-square-foot indoor, air-conditioned play area, a large covered patio with a concrete floor and plenty of open space to romp.
The kennel is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays and weekend hours by appointment. Fees depend on the type and frequency of the services.
