PORT RICHEY - The city council plans to interview three candidates for city attorney.
Council members have narrowed a list of six hopefuls to three finalists: Joseph A. Poblick, Zephyrhills city attorney; Andrew Salzman, former city attorney of Indian Rocks Beach; and Michael J. Brannigan of Brooksville.
The trio are vying for the position vacated by James Mathieu, whose contract with the city was terminated last month because of his relationship with two former council members.
Mathieu, 54, who also served as interim city manager for several months, denied any conflict of interest or wrongdoing as the city's legal watchdog for two years.
He will remain as city attorney until a replacement is hired.
Poblick, Salzman and Brannigan will be interviewed at 6 p.m. Wednesday in city hall, 6333 Ridge Road.
