TAMPA - In a game featuring two premier quarterbacks, Jefferson sophomore Quentin Williams outplayed Alonso junior C.J. Bennett as the Dragons rolled to a 41-21 win at Sam Horton Field on Friday.

"We played a pretty good football team," Jefferson coach Mike Fenton said, "but I think the secret's out now because we're a pretty good team, too. Nobody gave us a chance to win."

Williams completed 16 of 26 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns.

He added a 1-yard sneak for another score.

"There's a new sheriff in town," Fenton said of Williams. "He's only a sophomore and he's already a heck of a quarterback. He has one of the best arms I've been around.

"Former Jefferson and current South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia and Quentin remind me of each other. As sophomores, I'd say they're neck-and-neck right now."

Williams' touchdown passes covered 56, 35, 69 and 23 yards.

Dragons' running back Mark Winters, who rushed for 53 yards, caught two of Williams' scoring passes and finished with five receptions for 123 yards.

Receiver Devion Falconer had two receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown.

Bennett got off to a slow start - only 56 yards passing in the first half - before finding a rhythm in the second half.

He finished 22 of 43 for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He threw two interceptions, one of which was returned 45 yards for a touchdown by Dominique Johnson.

Johnson's pick was part of a Jefferson (5-3) scoring frenzy that broke open a close game early in the second half.

Up 10-7, the Dragons scored three touchdowns in 1:49 to go up 29-7.

After Alonso (6-3) got to within 29-14, Jefferson needed only two plays to up its lead to 35-14 when Williams hit Falconer for a 69-yard score with 4:46 remaining in the third.

The Dragons scored three touchdowns on their first five offensive plays of the second half.

The game featured several personal-foul penalties and the teams had to be separated on more than one occasion.

For this reason, Fenton ordered his team to go straight to the locker room after the game instead of the customary shaking of hands.

"They're kids out there," Fenton said. "We played hard and they played hard."

The Ravens are 0-3 when they score less than 22 points, and 6-0 when they score more than 22.
