TAMPA - A Citrus County medical examiner completed autopsies this morning of Alicia Chomic and her three young sons and ruled the deaths are consistent with a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Chomic and her boys, ages 15 months to 3 years, were discovered Friday by Chomic's mother at her Floral City home. Chomic, 23, shot her children, then turned the gun on herself, investigators say.

"We are still trying to piece the puzzle together," Citrus County Sheriff's spokeswoman Heather Yates said this morning.

Detectives continue to look for a suicide note, Yates said, or for something that helps explain why Chomic, a 23-year-old woman, would commit such a heinous act.

The father of Chomic's two youngest boys, Anthony Lietz of Pasco County, could not be reached for comment.

Yates said a toxicology report could take up to six months for results. Meanwhile, Chomic's mother, Vickie Maslowski, has been released from a local hospital, where she was taken Friday after growing distraught.

Deputies have resumed talking with Maslowski and her husband, Greg, but Yates said there was nothing she could release today about the conversation.

Authorities believe Chomic killed her children and herself sometime on Thursday while inside her mother's home at 4983 E. Stoer Lane in Floral City. According the sheriff's office, Chomic had just moved into the home three days earlier.

Yates said she did not know Chomic's previous address.

The Maslowskis returned home late Thursday and thought Chomic and her children were sleeping. Around 10 a.m. Friday, Vicki Maslowski went to check on them and discovered one of the boys was cold.

Greg Maslowski called 911. In the background, his wife can be heard sobbing. "My wife's going crazy," he tells the operator.

Reached at home this morning, Greg Maslowski declined to comment.

Researcher Diane Grey contributed to this report. Reporter Sherri Ackerman can be reached at (813) 259-7144.
