LAND O' LAKES - Batman, Spiderman, Cinderella and Scooby Doo were out in force at Kids' Stuff Preschool and Private Kindergarten on Friday, as were a number of fairies, princesses, Power Rangers, dragons and a penguin or two. They were some of the characters represented at the annual Kids' Stuff costume parade.
More than 200 students participated in the parade at the Land O' Lakes school, which was attended by their parents, grandparents and siblings.
"This is their chance to shine," said Georgie Jasper, whose 3-year-old daughter Danielle appeared as Cinderella in the parade.
Devora Tersaud, mother of 3-year-old student Brianna, agrees.
"She has been very excited about the parade," she said.
Teachers and some parents also dressed in costume for the hour-long march, which was set to songs that included "The Addams Family" theme, "Ghostbusters," "Purple People Eater" and "Monster Mash."
"This year, for the older kids, I tried to use more themes, like Spider-Man, that they would recognize and want to march to," said Christine Reed, Kids' Stuff music director.
Younger children marched to tunes such as "That's What Halloween is For" and "Orange Pumpkins." All Kids' Stuff students have been doing in-class activities related to the fall Halloween theme.
They grew corn and pumpkins, read Halloween-themed books, danced The Monster Mash, carved and colored pumpkins, and drew mummies. Oct. 24, they had a pumpkin hunt and hayride.
"When we plan a Halloween activity, it has to be something that's of interest to the children, and for them it's the ickier and sillier the better," said Jackie Genovese, assistant director of Kids' Stuff. "When it comes to Halloween we throw the rules out the window and get to do things we wouldn't ordinarily do."
