THE DIFFERENCE: Junior quarterback Eric Miller figured in both CCC touchdowns - a 50-yard pass to Micah Poole and a 38-yard keeper - to provide the difference in the Marauders' victory.
GAME NOTES: Poole's nifty touchdown reception, in which he beat one defender and outraced another to the end zone, opened the scoring early in the second quarter. ... After gaining just 73 total yards and three first downs in the first half, Mitchell (4-4) opened the second half with a nine-minute drive that covered 76 yards, 13 plays and gained six first downs. Ryan Gallagher's 4-yard scoring run pulled the Mustangs within 7-6, but they failed to tie the score after a penalty pushed the extra-point attempt back 15 yards and the kick failed. ... Gallagher gained 51 yards on 10 carries on the drive and led all rushers with 103 yards on 25 carries. ... It took CCC (5-4) just six plays to answer the score, with Miller breaking several tackles on his game-clinching touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter.
STAT OF THE GAME: The CCC defense recorded three consecutive sacks on Mitchell's final drive in the waning seconds, including fourth down, to preserve the victory.
