ST. PETERSBURG - Tyler Tisdale saved the day for Northeast High on Friday night. As time expired, Tisdale intercepted Jaquez Jenkins' pass at the Vikings 2-yard line as Northeast kept its playoff hopes alive with a 31-28 victory against Lakewood.

The Vikings' Antonio Aponte had two first-half interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Northeast (5-3) controlled possession for the majority of the game, yet allowed Lakewood (6-2) to tie it in the fourth quarter on Bernard Reedy's fumble recovery and return for touchdown.

After the Vikings took the lead with 10 seconds to go in the game on a 25-yard field goal from Lukasz Chrzastek, Reedy had a 43-yard kickoff return, setting the Spartans up at the 12-yard line. After a 5-yard penalty, Jenkins threw his third interception of the night.

The Vikings' running trio of Tisdale, Juarez Wynn and Daryl Copeland combined for 244 yards.

The visiting Green Devils got three touchdowns from fullback Ben Sams on a pair of 2-yard runs and a 24-yard score with 33 seconds left in the game to seal the win.

The Green Devils are tied with Gibbs for the Class 5A-10 runner-up berth. St. Petersburg already has a win over Gibbs earlier this season.

"Coach Joe Fabrizio had called a timeout and said this was the most important play of the year," Sams said of his last touchdown. Said Fabrizio, "The offense rallies around him because he starts banging on people. He likes contact. We like it when he starts moving the chains."

LARGO - In a battle of unbeaten state-ranked teams, Fort Meade (9-0) defeated host Indian Rocks Christian (8-1). The Miners entered the game ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, while IRC was No. 3. Indian Rocks Christian was Pinellas County's last undefeated team.

The Golden Eagles dominated in number of plays, first downs and time of possession, but gave up two big plays. Tamarris Grace's 92-yard second-quarter run down the sideline gave Fort Meade a 7-0 halftime lead and Jimmy Office's 30-yard fourth-quarter dash sealed the win. Grace had a total of 177 yards on 19 carries.

Indian Rocks controlled the clock, running 48 plays to 31 for the Polk County visitors, but the two big bursts were enough for Fort Meade.
