A pair of low pressure areas, one off each coast, will provide some moisture and energy to produce a few thunderstorms today after the sun starts heating things up.
An area of low pressure moving into the Gulf of Mexico will provide winds from the southwest high in the atmosphere and an area of low pressure off the east coast near the surface will move winds closer to the ground from the northeast.
This combination has the potential for any thunderstorms that develop to become severe with the possibility of producing gusty winds and large hail, the weather service says. Most of the thunderstorm activity will be in the afternoon, but rain showers should pop up through the day. There's still a chance of rain in the evening but things will quiet down after the daytime heat goes away.
A slight chance of rain will linger into Monday.
By early Sunday morning, nearly a quarter inch of rain fell at Tampa International Airport. The last significant rain at TIA was .69 of an inch on Oct. 24. Less than 1/10th of an inch fell the next day.
The airport finished October with 3.52 inches of rain, about 1.25 inches above normal for one of our driest months.
