Published: November 2, 2008

Fourth-year Blake football coach Sean Washington said he is stepping down following the Yellow Jackets' season finale Friday against Leto.

Washington said he wasn't "getting the job done" at Blake and didn't want to "hold back the progress of the program." He said he has already told his players of his decision, and he plans to inform Blake principal Jacqueline Haynes on Monday.

"I want Blake to be successful, I want Blake to be on top, and I want Blake to win," Washington said. "If they feel like they can bring someone else in and get that done, I'm all for it. I could probably even help them."

In four years as the Yellow Jackets' coach, Washington has a 10-29 record, including 1-8 this season. Blake's best mark under Washington came in his first year, when it went 4-6.

CALVARY CHRISTIAN 37,

CAMBRIDGE CHRISTIAN 19

TAMPA - Led by running back Jordan Ankrom, who scored three touchdowns, Calvary Christian defeated Cambridge Christian.

The first of Calvary Christian's five touchdowns came on a 6-yard run by Ankrom. Cambridge came right back, as Micah Lewis returned the kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. However, the Lancers failed to make the extra-point and were down 7-6.

After that, Calvary scored 30 unanswered points for the victory.

The Warriors harassed Lancers quarterback Hayden Kelley all night, sacking him three times. Warriors linebacker Jordan Schmidt intercepted Kelley twice.

The Lancers got a 10-yard touchdown run by Lewis and a 9-yard touchdown pass from Kelley to receiver Damarcus Faison.

"We're definitely young, and we're starting a freshman quarterback because of injuries," Cambridge Christian coach John Kelly said. "We made a lot of mistakes, and unfortunately we're still making those mistakes in Week 9, but in the second half of the game we were able to minimize some of those mistakes and get some successful drives."
