TAMPA - A judge has set an April trial date for John A. "Junior" Gotti.
Gotti was arrested in August and faces a federal trial in Tampa on charges he was involved in a vast racketeering conspiracy of murder, drugs and witness tampering. His attorneys have asked that the trial be moved to New York, but the prosecution contends Gotti participated in an effort by the Gambino crime family to gain a foothold in the Tampa area.
U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday today scheduled the trial for April, but that date could change because of the large amount of evidence and trial preparation involved.
