Manatee County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man they say used a lit road flare to threaten and rob a convenience store clerk.
Shilpa Baxi, 36, of Bradenton, was working at the Petrol Mart at 6513 14th St. W. when a man came into the store and asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes, deputies say. Baxi asked the man for identification and he said he had to go to his car and get it.
When the man returned, he had a lit road flare in his hand and held it toward Baxi, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said. The man demanded money from the register and threatened to burn Baxi, deputies said.
Baxi gave the man $191 and he fled the store in a sport utility vehicle, possibly a 1990s model Jeep Cherokee.
The man is described as white, in his late teens to early 20s, with short dirty blond hair. He was last seen wearing a blue dress shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information can call the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at (941) 747-3011.
