TAMPA - Drivers may want to avoid the area of Azeele Street and MacDill Avenue until Wednesday afternoon.
The Tampa Water Department has closed the intersection in South Tampa while workers fix a broken water main. The repairs should be completed by midday Wednesday, spokesman Elias Franco said.
Both directions of MacDill Avenue between Azeele Street and Kennedy Boulevard are open to local traffic only and can be reached only from Kennedy, Franco said.
Westbound Azeele also is open to local traffic only between Howard Avenue and Henderson Boulevard. Drivers heading eastbound on Azeele can go east through the intersection at MacDill or turn south on MacDill, but cannot turn north on MacDill.
All northbound traffic on MacDill Avenue is being detoured east on Azeele Street at the intersection.
The water going to homes and businesses in this area is safe to drink, Franco said.
