Winky Wright Returns To Ring In December

TAMPA - Tired of waiting around for the top boxers in the middleweight division to come his way, St. Petersburg's Ronald "Winky" Wright will end his long layoff and return to the ring in December against Michi Munoz.

The match, which will be held in Seattle, Wash., will likely be aired on the Versus network on Dec. 4.

Wright (51-4-1, 25 KOs) doesn't view Munoz (21-2, 14 KOs) as a tune-up. He calls him a quality opponent.

"The rest of them, they go and get a dude with a 15-10 record or a 10-12 record or someone in a smaller weight class. I get somebody in the super middleweight division and he's only lost twice," said Wright, a former undisputed junior middleweight champion. "This is a fight. People want to call it a tune up. It's a tune up just because of his name, but it's a fight."

Wright, 36, has been in training for the past month after last fighting Bernard Hopkins July 2007, a 12-round, unanimous decision loss. Meanwhile, Munoz, 27, has fought twice in 2008. His last fight in September was a second-round TKO victory against Ray Cunningham.

"It's going to be tough, but to be the champion, it's not easy," Wright admitted. "You have to go out there and win and look good doing it.
"Being that I took off so long, it's like you haven't driven your car in a year-and-a-half and you just want to pull out and drive, it's not going to start up."

Wright expects this fight to take place at either 160 or 165 pounds. He said he plans to eventually make his way back down 160 or 154, where he wants a shot at a title. That could take place on an HBO card in 2009.
