ST. PETERSBURG - A St. Petersburg police officer resigned amid allegations she falsified her application for a job with the department. Had Elisha Perkins not resigned, she would have been fired, according to a police memorandum released Monday.
A woman with whom Perkins once lived in Pennsylvania contacted the department's internal affairs division to inform them she had obtained a restraining order against Perkins, the memorandum says.
Internal affairs investigators obtained a copy of the "protection from abuse" document from Pennsylvania; they also found two criminal cases filed against Perkins in North Carolina.
Perkins did not mention the cases on her application, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said. She was a probationary officer, which means she had been with the department less than a year. She is not entitled to union protection as a probationary officer.
She resigned prior to Monday's review board.
