12:59 p.m.: Roberta Banks, wearing a gold satin floor-length dress and a black wig held in place with a scarf, greeted voters with a sign that read "Help Me Get Married" at precincts 562 and 566 at the University Area Community Center Complex.
Banks, a transvestite from Lutz, said his was determined to do what it took to encourage people to vote against Amendment 2, which would define marriage strictly between a man and woman.
She stood at the complex gate waving to passers-by.
"I've been going from poll to poll trying to get people to vote no on Amendment 2," said Banks, who would not reveal his birth name.
He said people have treated him well.
"People are driving by honking and waving," Banks said.
Banks stayed out of the constant stream of traffic heading to the voting precincts.
A few feet away, poll worker William Johnson directs motorists to available parking spaces.
He said traffic has been bumper to bumper since he arrived at 6 a.m.
"It's been tighter than this," Johnson said, waving his arms, directing traffic to the center parking lot.
