1:45 p.m.: "Who did you vote for?" queried Eric Williams, a 45-year-old John McCain supporter who was comparing political notes with co-worker Keith Lewis, 38, also of Tampa, who said he voted for Barack Obama.

Williams was taking a break from his trucking business to swap barbs with Lewis in the parking lot at Precinct 317. He became a Republican, he said, after the terrorist attacks in 2001.

"After 9-11, I started paying attention," Williams said. And what he saw was a Democratic Party that couldn't articulate what it planned to do to protect the country, he said. That's his worry about McCain's foe. "I don't know about Barack Obama," Williams said.

The country's first black candidate for president hasn't proven himself yet, Williams said.

"I don't like McCain, either, but he's the lesser of two evils."

For Lewis, it's simple: "I'd rather have a grand new change," he said. And Obama "will be a pretty good fit."

"Obama is a chameleon," Williams quipped. "He changes for the moment."
