6:51 p.m. As of 6 p.m., the Pinellas County elections supervisor estimates that 71 percent of the county's eligible voters have cast ballots in today's election. Deborah Clark estimates that 36 percent have showed up at the polls today and 35 percent either voted early or cast absentee ballots. At the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections service center off Ulmerton Road, people are still driving up and handing in filled-out ballots they picked up earlier. There is a big box outside the door and workers are collecting the ballots as people drive through, much like postal workers picking up last minute income tax returns at post offices on the tax filing deadline day. Other people are showing up at the service center and requesting a ballot, filling them out, and then putting them in the box. One man, Ralph Hatfield, said he and his wife tried to get in on the early voting over the weekend, but the lines were too long so they came to the service center tonight to pick up and fill out a ballot, just before voting closed.
