8:45 a.m.:Recardo Capers' job today is easy, but long. He expects to be here for most of the 12 hours that the polls are open.
Capers is standing at the entrance to the Jackson Heights NFL Youth Education Town Center in College Hill holding a sign that says: "Voting Rights Questions, Ask Me."
He's a volunteer for the elections office and has done this duty once before, eight years ago, he says.
As he chats, a car pulls up and a woman rolls down the window.
"Is there wheelchair access here?" she asks.
"Just pull to the left," Capers responds.
"Mostly, I direct people to people inside who know the answers," he says. His job is just to welcome people, he says, and to "make them calm to vote."
