8:38 p.m. Barack Obama was headed toward a win in Pinellas County and John McCain looked like the favorite in Pasco County as the vote count there neared an end.
In Hillsborough County, with only a few precincts recorded, Obama also held a lead.
Statewide, Obama was ahead with 50.7 percent to 48.5 percent for McCain.
The counts were recorded as of 8:30 p.m.
In Pasco, with 152 of 154 precincts reporting, McCain had 51 percent of the vote, at 106,455, compared with 48 for Obama, or 99,436.
In Pinellas, with 343 of 376 precincts reporting, Obama had 53 percent of the vote at 235,463 and McCain, 45 percent with 200,312.
In Hillsborough, with 42 of 384, Obama led 52 percent to 47 percent.
