6:35 a.m.: It's about a half-hour before the polls open, and the line outside of Precinct 701 at the Palmetto Club in FishHawk Ranch stretches more than a block.

More than 100 people are waiting in the line that snakes down Palmettoside Drive to Dorman Road. There are no parking spaces available at the Palmetto Club.

Freddie Valdez is the first voter in line. He arrived at 5 a.m. He said he wanted to arrive early because today is such an important day.
