Regarding Saturday's front page: I cannot believe anyone would be remotely interested in hearing the 911 call made during someone's most horrific nightmare come true ("Mother, Her 3 Sons Discovered Dead"). Our city would be better served by attending a sporting event to see people at their finest.
So, it was with great sadness and pride that I attended Friday night's football game between Plant and Chamberlain. While two great football teams were battling on the field, there was a bigger battle being waged in the stands.
While Plant fans in the bleachers - and medical personnel - were performing CPR on a gentleman attending the game, the entire Plant side could be heard reciting the Lord's Prayer, praying the gentleman would be taken care of by the One who could help. I read nothing of this in Saturday's paper, and I am quite sure Tampa could be better served by hearing people pulling together to help one in need the only way they could, rather than preying on someone else's horror.
Where is the humanity? We keep hearing "our country needs change," so let's start where it matters - in everyday life. I am still at odds as to whether I would have wanted my children to have been in the stands to witness humanity at its finest or simply thankful they were off enjoying Halloween festivities, preventing them from witnessing something so distressing.
As for the football teams on the field, they behaved in a manor befitting young men destined for greatness. My thoughts and prayers go to the gentleman's family.
