6:04 p.m.: There were just 12 cars in the lot at Riverview High School, polling place for Precinct 952, just before 6 p.m. today.
Voter Deb Winton said she wasn't surprised. At her workplace, about three-quarters of people voted by mail.
Winton and her husband, Rob, said their voting experience was easy and fast.
The Wintons are originally from New York. Rob Winton said polls there are open longer, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and he feels Florida's shorter hours don't accommodate as many voters.
They declined to specify their choice for president, other than to say it was neither John McCain or Barack Obama.
"We didn't like either of the major candidates, so we voted for someone in another party," Deb Winton said.
The Wintons were more forthcoming on other issues. They voted no on the marriage amendment, yes on continuing the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program, and yes on local-option funding for community college.
