12:29 p.m.: Merry Brocket of FishHawk took a vacation day from her job with a local talk-radio station to volunteer at the Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Office.
Her role? Steering people with absentee ballots to drop them into a locked box in the lobby of the building at 2514 Falkenburg Road.
"It's been fantastic," she said. "People just love the absentee ballot. It saves them time in lives. It also seems people are so proud to vote today."
Brocket arrived at 9:30 a.m. and plans to work as late as she's asked.
