8:41 p.m.: The doors are open at the Tampa Waterside Marriott for those who volunteered for Barack Obama's campaign in Florida.
The chandeliers cast a glow over the ballroom as volunteers pulled up chairs to two big screen TVs hoping to catch what they'd anticipated all Election Day: a Florida lead for their candidate.
As they gathered, Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink took a podium to give them an election update: Obama carried New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.
The crowd erupted.
That crowd, however, is small for now. Sink said the reason for the sparse turnout was that volunteers were calling prospective voters in Western states, urging them to get to their polls.
