GAINESVILLE - After smacking its last four opponents by an average score of roughly 50-10, it's understandable that Florida is feeling confident.
"Right now we feel like we're the best team in the nation," WR Deonte Thompson said. "We've just got to go out and work every day and keep doing what we're doing."
Though that doesn't mean that they aren't aware of complacency, the Gators realize they have no margin for error following their loss to Mississippi.
"We know we've got to keep getting at where we're trying to get," he said. "We're trying to get up to Atlanta first and after that we'll see where it takes us."
HARVIN MATURING: WR Percy Harvin has been a key contributor since he set foot in Gainesville two years ago. With all of his success, it's hard to believe that he could have improved. That is just what happened this season as Harvin already has scored 10 touchdowns despite missing the opener against Hawaii.
According to Coach Urban Meyer, the key to Harvin's success is the maturity the junior has shown this season.
"He's got the best first step in college football," Meyer said. "He's matured. He is a guy who had great success early. I'm not sure that is a negative. He's healthy and taking care of himself."
OUT FOR SEASON: Junior college transfer Troy Epps underwent surgery on his ACL two weeks ago and is out for the season, defensive line coach Dan McCarney said.
"He underwent major reconstructive surgery on his ACL," McCarney said. "He had surgery two weeks ago and the surgery went real well."
