4:31 p.m.: The Obama campaign in Florida says a text message is being sent out in the state, mostly to college students, falsely telling them the election has been extended until Wednesday because of high voter turnout.
According to a copy of the message forwarded from a campaign spokeswoman, the message says, "Due to long lines today, all Obama voters are asked to vote on Wednesday. Thank you for your cooperation."
CNN reported Monday that an Ocala-Gainesville area radio station announced the same thing, apparently as a joke. The radio station broadcast statements later saying it was a joke.
Obama spokeswoman Adrianne Marsh said the campaign is asking university administrations to send corrective information to students via email, and that the University of Florida and Florida State University officials have responded.
Press spokesmen for the universities couldn't immediately provide information on the situation.
