9:57 p.m. Long after the polls closed, as about 100 University of South Florida students waited in line to cast their votes, Hillsborough County Elections Supervisor Buddy Johnson told reporters that school officials underestimated the turnout. During a 20-minute period, the on-campus polling center was out of ballots.
But USF spokesman Michael Hoad said the university has "absolutely no data" with which to estimate voter turnout among students. That job belongs to Johnson's office.
"We provide nothing but a location" to vote, Hoad said.
